The long-awaited final match of the season of Champions League was finally played on Saturday and it gave us everything we expected and more! The game between Real Madrid and Liverpool started out with Real Madrid jumping to an early lead in the first half, while Liverpool was able to tie up the game during the second half. With 15 minutes left in the match, Real Madrid took off their best player, Cristiano Ronaldo, due to an injury he had sustained during the match so it seemed like Liverpool would have a great chance to steal the win in his absence.

Real Madrid is back!
The Champions League is typically Real Madrid’s playground, but it looked like Barca would reclaim its throne last season when a draw against PSG put it through to the semifinals. But then Ronaldo scored a hat trick in Madrid’s 3-0 win over Juventus on Tuesday, and suddenly, Real Madrid is back and winning an other season of Champions League. Fans around Spain are undoubtedly thrilled by their win—and some are wondering if Ronaldo will stay with his current club past its expiration date at age 33.

History repeats itself
La Decima, the team’s tenth European Cup. It had won the trophy nine times previously, but never under the current format of a single-elimination tournament and certainly never as convincingly or dramatically as it did last Saturday against city rival Atletico Madrid. Just like its heroes of yesteryear—Puskas, Di Stefano, Gento—Real Madrid always surprise the world. Last night was no different.

Barcelona chokes again
Barcelona’s season might have been another disappointing one following its loss to Real Madrid on Saturday, but with the way they lost this time around, they’re likely used to it by now. Los Blancos’ 3-1 win on Saturday was the Catalan team’s third straight loss at the Santiago Bernabeu this season after suffering similar defeats in league and Copa del Rey play.
